40 to 40!

Sarah Gillespie had the idea that before I turn 40, I should create a list. 4o wild and wondrous thing to do in the 40 days before 40. And so I did. And a calendar too. The countdown has begun! If you’d like to be a part of any of the events, message me using the form below.

  • Pack a sunset picnic
  • Host brunch
  • Wear your hair curly
  • Get a haircut…. the way you’ve always actually wanted
  • Go see Willie Nelson… because he can’t live forever
  • Play a game of solitaire
  • Finish your website. Share it.
  • Wear that fabulous wide brim hat that you never wear
  • Buy coffee for someone behind you
  • Float down the river in a kayak or a tube
  • Wear that one piece of nice jewelry you bought yourself 13 years ago and never break out because it’s “too nice”
  • Use your book credit at Daedalus to buy a classic that you’ve never read
  • Dust off your guitar and sing a song
  • Leave something wonderful on someone’s doorstep
  • Leave a thank you note for the garbage guy… because you’ve always wanted to
  • Sleep in a tent
  • Go see the ocean… because it still hurts to be so far away (see #18)
  • Take a roadtrip (see #19)
  • Make paella… don’t burn it and don’t let it turn to mush
  • Buy a birthday dress
  • Visit the riverfront in Richmond… finally!
  • Buy that asparagus fern you’ve been pining over for years (seriously, it’s $10)
  • Have a milkshake
  • Have a Sunday picnic at Jefferson Vineyard… because it will never, ever get old
  • Go skinny dipping…. because you will never, ever get too old
  • Go to the movies… alone
  • Buy a stranger a drink
  • Smoke a cigar in Staunton’s cigar store
  • Leave a note in a library book
  • Take a selfie with a stranger
  • Read a beautiful piece of writing out loud to someone
  • Watch a meteor shower
  • Watch the sun rise
  • Go fly fishing
  • Have a drink at the Double Horseshoe Saloon
  • Request a song from a busker
  • Listen to music instead of the news
  • Cloud watching (it’s been so long)
  • Make a toast to Frank J
